At our recent dinner meeting, local publisher Aimee Paardekooper captivated members with the story of her journey from bookseller to publisher. Now the owner of Flying Books Publishing, Aimee’s publishing venture began 16 years ago alongside her active involvement in her family’s Paper Plus bookstores. To solve a seasonal shortage of new titles during the busy winter reading period, she stepped up to create her own, focusing on Central Otago stories and New Zealand content.
Aimee candidly shared pivotal learning moments from her career, demonstrating how perseverance and clear focus carried her through challenging times. To top off an inspiring evening, Aimee generously gifted copies of several titles to our members and guests—books that are sure to make the rounds across the club in the coming months!
