A Pie has pastry base, sides and most importantly - a lid. Without a lid it is a 'Flan' or a 'Tart' depending on the content being savoury or sweet. A pie without a crust but with a pastry lid is commonly known as a Pot Pie.  All are delicious whatever your preference - and with so many fillings to choose from July is the ideal month to saviour these tasty treats along with a refreshing beer.
