As I write this bulletin for March April I was saddened to hear of the passing of our club member Leigh-Anne Fox. Leigh-Anne joined our club in 2020 and was serving as a member of our Executive in Club relations and publicity.
Its always sad to lose a Rotarian , but especially someone who was young and with much of life ahead, her passing is even more difficult for us.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Paul and the family at this time.
We move out of day-light saving shortly and it has been a fabulous summer here in Central Otago. Such a contrast to the weather events that have challenged our North Island communities. Our club committed $3000 to the Mayoral relief fund, after research found that was the most efficient way to send support. We have partnered with the Territorial Support agreed by our Mayors in Central Otago, to support the Hawkes Bay region. I am also aware some of us will be personally helping as we go forward, as this disaster will have long reaching effects on the Community.
The hosting of affected NI families, plus volunteers working tirelessly to help, was again discussed. There is a wish by our clubs to host, including home hosting, these people in Central Otago. ADG Keith will pursue this idea through the appropriate District team.
At our last presidents get together with ADG Keith McIntosh, the presidents agreed to push forward with supporting Queenstown’s objective toward a Rotaract Club to provide a pathway for the many young people who have attended RYLA in the past, to get more involved with Rotary.
This month Cromwell will be a venue for the presidents and others to further action this strategy.
Our dementia project has been determining the benefits of music to dementia patients. It began 7 months ago and is nearing completion. The benefits will be determined after talking with families and a report will be completed.
The project has the potential to be expanded to other rest homes and taken up as a Rotary project elsewhere. A headphones set is just $15. More information will follow when the Cromwell Pilot is summarised.
A big thanks to Pete Svensson for the work done so far.
Fin White organised a clean up at Tony and Patsy Streeters earlier in the month and as I write another great effort was organised to finish off the wood project. Thanks to all the team that assisted.
This month will be a quieter month, with Easter weekend and Anzac Day impacting on our usual Rotary dates. There is a vocational night planned for Monday 17th so watch out for a notice on that.
Pippa and I hope you have a relaxing Easter Break. If you are travelling, please keep safe.
Until next time.
