We are now into Winter and for Cromwell Rotary it means the Queen’s Birthday Weekend Book Sale. This year it was held over 3.5 days and again thanks to our hard-working book sale committee, it was another great success, once all monies in and expenses out, the final tally will go to St Johns, to help with the fit out of their new Building. A big thanks to all that helped Rotary once again to show what we can do in a small town.
Andrew and Fin and their committee have now finalised and ordered The Clock. Once it arrives from Austria, it will be attached to the power coated pole and concreted into place etc, we hope this will be completed by our 40th Anniversary later in the year, thank you team for getting this off the ground, we look forward to the finished installation.
Thank you to our temporary president Eugenio Campanella on the 27th May, from all accounts I believe he did a very good job and entertained our members. We had another member Christine Pacey speak on her role with Hospice, we have also had the new Director of the Cromwell Museum, Jennifer Hay give us a heads up on what’s been happening at the Museum, also some of her ideas for the future. I think Cromwell is very lucky to have someone of Jennifer’s calibre. Watch out for the future of the Museum I’m sure.
Don’t forget we have changeover on the 30th June at 12pm, The Stoaker Room is providing lunch. Please RSVP helenandbill@xtra.co.nz your attendance and partners. On that note this is my last Bulletin as President, I’d like to thank my Directors, Committee members and Club members for all your support over the last 12 months. I hope some of the changes we had made over the last 12 months, will make each of our roles easier and enjoy our reasons for being in Rotary. I wish Neroli and her new team well for the coming year. I’m sure I will enjoy being the IPP (Immediate Past President)
As you can see in the photo, there was a great turnout of Rotarians with partners, friends and family at Amigos on Monday evening.
James Emanuel shared his his story of developing the Amigos chain of restaurants and his plans for a new enterprise in The Mall selling and supporting local producers.
It was an excellent evening with great food and fellowship. Thank you for organising this Doreen.
Over Queens Birthday Weekend another very successful booksale was held at the Bowling Club. Donations of a spectacular number of quality books from our community and generous volunteer hours from our members resulted in sales of $15900. An amazing achievement by all concerned. The nett funds from this sale will be donated to St John Ambulance to assist with the rebuild of the new Station hub here in Cromwell.
Thank you to the Jake & Myah, the head students at Cromwell College, for speaking at our meeting. You represented your school very well & we wish you all the best for the coming year. Our RYE student, Eugenio (who is also a student at Cromwell College) did an excellent job of chairing the meeting! 👍. A real focus on youth tonight 👌
In light of Rotary's support of the Otago Community Hospital at their upcoming fund-raising appeal at New World, Christine Pacey (above) spoke to Cromwell Rotarians at their meeting this week. Christine is one of the Community Hospice team and gave a very full explanation of their role in improving the quality of life for patients as they prepare for death. Patients and their families get support in their own home with their physical, emotional, social, family and spiritual needs in a way that has them feel valued and comforted. The Community Hospice philosophy of care is carried out with the help of counsellors, doctors, nurses, occupational therapists, social workers and a group of volunteers.
Rotary will be helping with the Community Hospice fund-raising collection at New World this Friday May 17. The Community Hospice team, Rotary and the 200+ current patients will welcome any donation you can make.
Last term a new community initiative, THE BREAKFAST CLUB, was set up at Cromwell College. This is a supervised, volunteer run (mostly Rotary members) scheme whereby all students at Cromwell College have the opportunity to have a free breakfast every morning. although we would like to think this type of service is not needed in Cromwell the aim of this project is to ensure those students who need this kind of assistance are getting it. Sponsorship has been gained from Sanitarium and Fonterra, and toast and spreads are also available(honey is donated). Breakfast club is open from 8.15-8.45 daily in the Home Economics Room. We need extra help for this term. If you are able to help sign up on ClubRunner or give Hilary a call.
Don't forget to vote for Neroli's son, Matt, who is representing Otago Southland in the NZ Young Farmer of the Year in Napier the first weekend of July.

IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO DO YOUR DUTY: Please arrange a swap with someone else and let Pam know as early as possible. If you put your apologies in as soon as you know your holiday dates, then you are less likely to put you on a roster when you’re away.

APOLOGY PROCESS CHANGES
To make it easier for everyone to remember from now on we ask you to put in an apology each week if you are not able to attend Rotary.
The 1st Monday of each month we plan to do a vocational visit. This is just a regular Rotary meeting but we visit the speaker at their business and then go for a social drink and a meal if you would like. It is very interesting to see businesses in our area and great for Rotary to be seen out & about. We need to have some idea of numbers attending.
The 2nd & 4th Monday of each month we will have a speaker and a meal at the T & C. Apologies needed for the meal
The 3rd Monday of each month we will be out & about in the community - a social outing or an hour or so of service followed by fellowship. On these evenings please put in an apology if you cannot attend any of the evening ie the community service or the fellowship. For some social activities Helen will ask for numbers a few days ahead to assist with organisation.
