On Saturday night I was one proud President after the house and garden tour.
I’d like to thank Paula Jackson and her team for putting on a very successful day. I’ve had only positive comments from the public and Facebook, how well organised it was, the variety of houses, gardens, apartments and even a rest home conference centre. They commented regularly to me that it was a lot better than others they had been too, the key was keep it simple and have old, new and everything in-between. I’d also like to thank St Johns on the day for a full support of volunteers. I’m hoping the end tally with the support of Rotary will be $15,000 towards St Johns new refit.
We had the blood pressure day early October, thank you to Keith and his team for organising that. Some 120 odd people were tested on the day and I believe some people were referred to their doctor, hopefully they took Keith’s advice.
Our new concept of getting out and about in the community on a Monday night, saw us asked to help out with 2 gardens in the town. I personally had to go back the following day to finish the lawns and the owner was so grateful we went and helped in her garden, which was her pride and joy. She said it was like winning lotto, so well done team. Fair to say I had a tear or two when I left, we also received a beautiful letter from the grateful garden owner. It was a great turnout from our members, I personally want to thank all for helping and wearing your Rotary High Vis Vests .
We had another Monday night out and about and worked on Deadman’s Point weeding, we had a great turn out of Rotarians and a catch up afterwards at the Five Stags for a debriefing.
We heard from two Lions Club members about setting up the Menz shed in Cromwell and asking for our support. We will have a Rotary representative, Allan Lloyd, keeping us informed of their progress.
Debra Cruikshank from Tannacrief Wines enlightened us on how to make port and how a one women band can be successful with a lot of hard work, we wish her well and I’m sure we will hear a lot more about her in the future.
The Holden Street Smart youth driver training was another successful day, thanks to all the members and a couple of non members Ewan Tosh and Jo Lunn for helping on the day.
Fin and a small team helped erect a Rotary sign at Richards Beach, now unofficially called Rotary Point. If you're walking the track this summer please water the plants from drums supplied, if you see weeds coming back please let Fin know, so we can go and spray.
Don’t forget to register by the 2nd November for the District BBQ at the Highlands Park on the 10th November starting 12noon. If you’d like to drive around the track in your own car, you can do that on the day. It should be a nice day to catch up with fellow Rotarians from our district.
We have our Rotary Fishing Competition on the 11th November also, please contact Andrew Burton to help out on the day.
We are looking for ideas and names of businesses or places of interest to visit around the area on our Monday nights out and about. Please contact Pam Broadhead with your ideas.
I’m going to make Monday 10th December our last night for the year, we will keep you posted what’s going to happen.
We will start meetings again Monday 21st January 2019.
Over the summer holidays we have two Rotary events, the 4 wheel drive rally and the summer book sale, we will be calling on helpers soon.
Have a great November, I hope the good weather continues
Craig Lunn
