As I write this bulletin from Tauranga, it is a good time to reflect the successes of the Rotary year in 2022.
It was great to have a solid turn out to our AGM, where PP Stuart outlined the successes of 2021/2022, underpinned by the challenges of COVID disruption, and the fantastic funding platform achieved by collaboration of Cromwell Rotary and Cromwell Lions.
We were also joined by DG Jan Boustead and her husband Dave, along with ADG Keith McIntosh. Jan provided a power point presentation about herself, and her journey with Rotary and presented the club with an acknowledgement from the District on exceeding our target for Polio giving, largely due to the Pumpkins for Polio that Nick Wood drove so hard during his year. Well done, Nick.
Pippa and I hosted the directors at home for a very short ‘formal’ meeting of the club before adjourning to enjoy some Christmas hospitality during the evening. It was nice to see a good group along and I must say a big thanks to everyone for the work they have done this year.
The directors approved supporting $200 towards the Pork Pie Challenge, which involves supporting the Rotary Club of Wanaka duo Jarod Fraser and his daughter Zoe travelling from Paihia to Invercargill next March to raise funds for KidsCan.
The directors also resolved to hold over discussion about supporting the Vanuatu project being lead by Dunedin Harbour Club. The project is the construction of a Preschool at Almevet Village, Malekula Island in Vanuatu next year. To date $39,000 funds have been assured with a shortfall presently sitting at $24,250. We will discuss this next year.
We have approved an application for the RYLA event being held in Queenstown in 2023. Our candidate Adam, sponsored by Doreen Evans’ law firm, will gain a lot from the RYLA experience.

Our first meeting date is Monday 23rd January, and we are also having a Guess Who is coming to Dinner event on Monday 30th January. That will be a nice start to the 2023 year.
