Hello Everyone

I began the month of March cycling through vines in Nelson with a group of Rotary friends and the great sense of fellowship and friendship from that shared experience has strengthened my pleasure in being part of our Rotary Club. This feeling was again highlighted at the District 9980 Conference in Waimate last weekend with another group of members, we made a great CREW.
"The Power of the Moment" was the key message of the conference.  One of those powerful moments was the showing of the Cromwell District Conference 2022 promotional video - thank you Allan:) Our goodie bags of  amazing local attractions and the fresh stonefruit from Webbs, got people excited about coming to our place next year. Plans and bookings are being made already :)

Tomorrow will be 1 year since we began our first COVID lockdown! But we are so lucky this year to be able to be out and about living our new normal. So with this in mind I strongly encourage you to take the opportunity to come out to the social evening at the Stoaker Room next Monday. We can expect another superb Stoaker meal after which our speaker will take us along on a most intriguing journey. A great night out - don't miss out BOOK IN NOW!

The only T&C Club meeting during April is on the 12th, that evening we will have the head boy & girl from Cromwell College speaking to us as well as some members presentations.
A rescheduled vocational visit to the new Polytechic Campus will happen on 19th April. There will be an email sent out closer to the time with details of the visit.
Best wishes for a safe and happy Easter break (for those who get one) and for a superb grape harvest (for those doing that!)
Warm regards
Pam

Working Bee at Rotary Point
Thank you to all those who have joined the working bees at Rotary Point. Here is the crew on Monday - making a difference.

Area Speech Competition
Two candidates for our area speech competition vied for a place in the final at the District Conference at the club meeting on 8th March.
Lucy Laws and James Scoles both gave challenging and dynamic speeches. James won the opportunity to represent the area at the conference with his "daring adventure into internet politics".

James was highly commended for his energetic speech at conference. The winner was the candidate from Timaru whose speech tested the 4 way test against itself. A very smart interpretation of the brief!
Waimate Conference
A great CREW attended the 2021 Distrist 9980 conference in Waimate this past weekend. It was an excellent weekend with 3 extraordinary keynote speakers, focussing on diversity and inclusion, brilliant speech competition finalists, great insights into the experiences of the returning Rotary Youth Exchange students and an inspiring visit to a developing eco sanctuary in the foothills behind the township.
The tone of the conference was relaxed and inclusive, the theme was Green, so the Cromwell Rotary Eco Warriors CREW shared green times with local girl Sarah Hurdle, a past RYE student, who was at the conference as a member of the Dunedin Rotoract Club.

A photography competition was held during conference and many extraordinary entries were received and shown to us. The first place silver plate was awarded to our own Murry Kennedy for his selfie shot with Denis and Lorraine at the top of the cycle trail up White Horse Hill. It was a decent climb according to Lorraine, and Denis did it using his own pedal power!! Well done to you all for your effort and to you for recording the moment so well Murray.

Incoming District Governor, Nick, hard at work lobbying the crowd to meet in Cromwell next year for the last 9980 conference.

Visit to Hector Egger
A large number of members joined our March vocational visit to the new Hector Egger factory, for the prefabrication of timber construction elements for new building.
This huge architecturally designed warehouse accommodates the specialised equipment utilised by Hector Egger in the prefabrication of each of the respective building elements.
Using this equipment a 150m2 family home takes appox. 6-8 weeks in design and engineering per typology, 3 days factory manufacture and 3 days on site installation to a weather tight envelope.
Pumpkins for Polio

A great challenge from incoming District Governor Nick. Come on Cromwellians lets get ready to win!!!
