It’s been a busy start to the year.
One of the significant pieces of work each year is that of the Rotary Foundation. As emphasised by Nick’s District project last year the District Grant Scheme is a powerful way of adding value to our projects.
As always, the deadline to get grant applications in for consideration is 31 July each year. The ink will hardly have dried on our grant declaration form required by the time we will have put in for a grant on our usual Dictionaries in Schools project. In addition, a wonderful opportunity to work with six other clubs in D-9999 has arisen through contact with the Rotary Club of Richmond who as the lead club will submit a grant application including ourselves and five other clubs to raise funds for sanitary products for girls and women in the Pacific in times of emergency. This is a much-needed project titled Days for Girls, and project lead Debra Gibbs from Richmond will speak to us later in our rotary year.
I have had several emails regarding funding and those will be directed toward the directors, or, in some cases, they may make a good speaker opportunity for the club.
This month we hope to bed down our roles and teams within the club. Many of you will be able to assist in one way or another, so please sign up to those projects you are interested in. Thanks to Doreen and Barb who are assisting with vocational visits around Cromwell and the wider Central Otago. We hope to have our programme finalised for the next six months shortly.
Our Fishing Classic is going to be run by Mark Mexted. If you are keen to help him, I am sure he will be pleased to have you on board. I will give him a hand too, but I cannot guarantee a catch!!! It will be awesome to have this great event again this year.
We will have some sign-up sheets available at our meetings for various committees and activities.
Keith is also keen to update member photographs and will have his camera at our next few meetings to do so. Please take advantage of this opportunity if you want it.
Our theme this year is ‘Imagine Rotary’. RI President Jennifer Jones wants members to imagine the possibilities in the change they can make to transform the world.
There is some interest in seeing Jennifer live in Melbourne next year. Pippa and I have booked our flights and accommodation. We are ‘doing our own thing’ but happy to share through Adrienne what we are doing. That way we don’t put pressure on any one individual but will have a great time. Some of our friends from the Rotary Club of Gore are thinking of coming too. If you are thinking of Conference in Melbourne, please chat with Adrienne and remember the inaugural District 9999 Conference dates of 24-26th March 2023 in Oamaru.
