Cromwell Volunteer Fire Brigade firefighter Gilbert Stace has received medals for his 50-year service award. Cromwell fire chief Steve Shaw praised Mr Stace for his long firefighting service and said it represented the other valuable service given by other firefighters. Other long service and good conduct awards were presented during a recent honours ceremony in Cromwell, including gold bar awards for 31 years’ service to Mr Shaw and John Searle. Mr Stace has been with the Cromwell brigade for about three years, having served before that with the Governor’s Bay and Sumner brigades, in the Christchurch region. |

We have something special to follow our AGM at the T&C club on Monday Nov 26. Call it a little bit of Christmas spirit if you will ! Instead of a speaker at the conclusion of the formal part of the meeting, we are bringing you a chance to taste some whisky. Come join Neil a local Scotsman with a genuine passion for whisky as he takes us on a journey round Scotland trying some of the best single malts available. The presentation will be friendly and informative with lots of opportunities for questions. We expect the tasting will start about 7pm/7.15pm and last about an hour to an hour and a quarter, so the evening will be longer than our normal meetings, but then if we're enjoying the samples, time will probably not matter ! The cost per person for the tasting is $15. Please note this is in addition to the normal $20 for dinner. Please note that the normal apology system via the website applies for the meeting itself. THIS EXTRA REGISTRATION AND PRE-PAYMENT applies only if you want to partake of a wee dram or two during the entertainment section of the evening ;) |

As mentioned at our recent meetings there has been a lot of weed spraying done around the tussock plantings done at both the north and south sides of Deadmans Bridge. The dead weeds now need to be pulled out, a very easy tug is all that will be required, then the tussocks can grow to their full potential and we will reduce the risk of a fire there. We ask for as many helpers as possible to come along on Monday at 6PM to meet at the car park on the north side of the bridge. With a good crowd turnout we plan to pull all the weeds out in an hour and then move to The Five Stags for an hour of sharing and socialising. Please take the time to join in on both, or one of these activities. If you are unable to pull weeds please feel very welcome to join in with everyone at The Five Stags at 7PM. These Monday nights are about Rotary fellowship among friends. |

The address is 26a Ree Crescent, Cromwell.
The Workshop Fitness Centre was started by three partners, Matt and Jolene who are married with two children and Duncan, who is a single dad.
Although there were already two gyms here in Cromwell, we wanted to bring big city expectations to a little town. Our focus is around getting people fit and healthy, both mentally and physically. We believe that exercise is the most under prescribed medication for so many modern day stresses. We want to create an environment that excites people about working out, makes people start talking to each other again, instead of being immersed in headphones and get the adrenaline pumping so they release endorphins. We want to work closely with our local community, to raise awareness towards healthy and active lifestyles, to do charity events supports mental health charities.
Our gym is different, in the sense that we offer high quality equipment, a massage room and a creche.
The Workshop Fitness Centre sponsors a few sports teams, The BMX Club, Netball and Rowing club. We believe that just because we are a small town, we can still produce big athletes!
I look forward to meeting you all on Monday the 4 th of March at 6pm to tell you more about ourselves.
Jolene

The dream of every puppy born in our guide dog breeding centre is to grow up to be a guide dog. Did you know it takes two years of highly specialised training to fulfill this dream?
Hit the streets with us on 22 or 23 March and the money you collect will help breed and train more guide dogs. These special dogs can bring freedom, confidence and independence to New Zealanders who are blind or have low vision.
Last year, supporters like you raised an incredible $900,000 for guide dogs during Red Puppy Appeal.
